DAY 4 – DRINK LOTS OF WATER!

Drinking water daily is important and even more so when you’re exercising and eating clean.

For one, you need to stay hydrated, before, during and after activity. Proper hydration will help your performance, both mentally and physically, as well as your recovery.

Second, higher than average-protein diets require more than the 8 to 10 glasses of water recommended for healthy adults. (Fluids that contain caffeine, such as coffee and tea, don’t help increase hydration levels because they act as diuretics.) The water is helpful in eliminating the by-products of protein digestion by the kidneys.

There are such varying opinions on how much water to drink per day. It all depends on your size, weight, activity level, where you live, what your’e eating… One definite sign that you’re not drinking enough H2O is the color of your urine. If your urine is clear or very light yellow and has little odor, you’re well hydrated. The darker and more aromatic your urine, the more dehydrated you are.

How can you build more water consumption into your day?
CARRY A BOTTLE (OR JUG) WITH YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO! I like to have water at my disposal at work, at night when in bed, during my workouts, etc… It is much more likely that you will drink water when it is always visible and at your fingertips.
Also, make water your drink of choice when you go out to a restaurant. Don’t give in to empty calories!
