LAST DAY OF THE YEAR…

Here we are – looking at a new year ahead.

I contemplated not writing about NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.

Last year (and likely every year before that), the most common New Year’s resolution was fitness-related.  A study published by the Statistic Brain Research Institute last year showed that roughly 50 million Americans pledged to increase activity and lose weight in 2017.

Despite good intentions, success was hard to come by.  Two months after pledging to become more active, only 37 percent of people in their 20s and 16 percent over age 50 had kept to their new fitness habit.

Behavior change is tough, even when the benefits of such a change are obvious!

Every time the holidays roll around, we make the same deals with ourselves: work out more, eat healthier food, sleep more and take more time for ourselves.  While those are all great things to incorporate into our lives, I find that BROAD goals rarely stick in the long run.

So let’s talk about RESOLUTIONS – but let’s set some specific goals!  Let’s set some S.M.A.R.T. goals and stick to them!!!

For example, it’s not enough to say,

“I want to lose weight”.

It has to be more detailed, such as:

“I want to lose 15 lbs during the WOFB transformation challenge starting January 8, 2018 and ending March 31, 2018, by following the meal plan given to me and working out 4 times per week, one hour each workout.”

“I want to increase my water intake in January by drinking 8 glasses of water per day, starting with one glass in the morning upon waking up.  I will keep track of the H2O intake using my tracking app.”

Tomorrow is January 1st, 2018.  Does this mean that you will wake up a brand new person?  No, but it does mean that you are willing to give it a serious shot!

Together, let’s make 2018 the best year yet!!!!

This Saturday, Dec 30, SOLE SISTERS is going out with a hardcore leg and cardio workout!  Meet us at FIU, in our favorite garage at 6:59am and you’ll find out what that means!!  If you need more info on the exact meeting spot, comment below and you will receive an email with more detailed instructions.

Hello!!!!!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day for the FOOD AND TOY DRIVE!

This Saturday’s SOLE SISTERS is back at the bridge!  We are going to run our little hearts out in beautiful Key Biscayne, Saturday, Dec 23rd and then head to GreenStreet Cafe for a holiday breakfast.  Please meet us there at 6:59am!  Again, if you’ve never run the bridge, you will absolutely fall in love with the energy and scenery there.  Not to mention that the workout is amazing.  It’s not just cardio – the incline works the legs and butt too =)

KickboxingNew

Tomorrow night’s KICKBOXING class is going to be poppin’!!!!!!!  You MUST attend Coach Che’s 6:30pm kickboxing class.  This is OPEN to all members of the Elite program – DJ EAZY will be in the house with some amazing music to hit the pads to!

SCHEDULE CHANGE –>  As of January 2018, Coach Che’s 6:30pm kickboxing class will begin at 6pm instead of 6:30pm.

TOY DRIVE ENDING Friday, Dec 22.

As a parent to 3 young children, the emotion I feel when I see their faces as they open their gifts on Christmas morning is priceless.  Unfortunately, there are many children whose Christmas doesn’t include a toy.  Please help us help them!

WOFB is proud to partner with Miami Rescue Mission again this year to do our part in helping our community.  We will be collecting NEW, UNWRAPPED toys until Friday, Dec 22.

2. Profession: teacher

3. When did you first start training at WOFB and how did you find out about us? I started training this past summer when I moved back from China. I found out about WOFB through google.

4. Tell us about your sports & fitness background: In college I competed competitively in fencing for two years. I’ve always enjoyed exercising and being active since I was a teen. I’ve completed about 6 half marathons.

5. Favorite Exercise (or type of workout): Upper body to get rid of the underarm fat!

6. Least Favorite Exercise: Abs and jump rope.

7. What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and overall fitness since starting WOFB? I’ve definitely seen that I am more conscious of what I eat and try cooking more so I know what I put into my food. Also I feel that I have more endurance and that I push myself more and more in every class. Now, things that I found difficult before like Insanity workouts and running, are just a breeze and I barely break a sweat!

TRYING TO LOSE BELLY FAT??

Ugh, it’s the worst!  Belly fat is the most stubborn area and usually the last to respond to any kind of fat loss efforts.

But ladies, it’s no secret!

The key to losing those last few unwanted pounds is in your diet!!
The top offender for the belly bulge is SUGAR. This means if you want to slim down around your waistline, cut out the sugar and you’ll fast track your way to your goal.  And this doesn’t mean only avoiding chocolate cake and cookies at birthday parties.

This means…

-giving up the 2 tablespoons of sugar you put in your cafe con leche each day,
-saying no to soda and store-bought juice,
-substituting that white bread or pasta with heartier, grainy ones,
-replacing the ketchup with mustard, BBQ sauce with hot sauce and flavored yogurt with plain Greek yogurt & real fruit,

You get the point?!

At the same time you’re cutting out sugar from your diet, you’ll need to fill your belly with good foods, such as vegetables & lean proteins, commit to regular & intense workouts and HAVE FAITH AND PATIENCE!  There is your recipe!

And keep in mind, it’s not easy.  The tougher a goal is to achieve, the tougher you have to be to reach it!  And you’re tough!!
