February 29, 2016

Well here we are… last day of the month, February 29, also known as LEAP DAY – a date that occurs in most years that are divisible by 4, such as 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.

[Wikipedia]  Although most calendar years have 365 days, a complete revolution around the sun (1 solar year) takes approximately 365 days and 6 hours.  An extra 24 hours thus accumulates every four years, requiring that an extra calendar day be added to align the calendar with the Sun’s apparent position.  Without the added day, in future years the seasons would occur later in the calendar, eventually leading to confusion about when to undertake activities dependent on weather, ecology or hours of daylight.

WOFB’s version of OSCAR NIGHT is this Sunday, March 6th.  If you haven’t clicked on this link –> BANQUET TICKETS

…what are you waiting for??

It will be a formal evening, with a full course meal, open bar, DJ and dancing.  On that note, are there are vegetarians, vegans or kids requiring special dishes??  PLEASE LET ME KNOW NOW!  Thank you!

February 22, 2016

My apologies that this is coming late, but nonetheless, very deserved!

Our STUDENT OF THE MONTH for February 2016 is:

Age: 23

Profession: Pre Litigation Assistant

When did you first start training at WOFB and how did you find out about us?
I started training at WOFB back in 2013. My fiancée and I were looking for a gym we could attend together; he was signing up for the MMA program and convinced me to check out the Bootcamp. I wanted a place where I could feel comfortable and motivated to work out and WOFB was that for me and more. The ladies here are super motivating and very friendly. Loraine, Rima, Che, Vicky, Jason, Jay, and all the trainers have been extremely helpful and have challenged me to do things I never thought were possible. Working out to me is no longer boring but exciting.

Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I played soccer ever since I was 5 years old and exercising has always been my favorite thing to do.

Favorite Workout (or type of workout): my favorite type work out is kick boxing

Least Favorite Workout: my least favorite would have to be legs.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and overall fitness since starting WOFB?
I’ve seen a lot of changes in my body especially in my stomach area I am very flat compared to when I started. Now I am a lot more conscious about what I eat and should not be eating.

GABBY, CONGRATULATIONS on earning this award!!!  I have seen you first-hand, busting your butt in class and during our Sole Sisters meets.  You definitely deserve this!!  Keep up this exemplary effort and dedication!

SOLE SISTERS is for everyone!

Drinking water daily is important and even more so when you’re exercising and eating clean.

For one, you need to stay hydrated, before, during and after activity. Proper hydration will help your performance, both mentally and physically, as well as your recovery.

Second, higher than average-protein diets require more than the 8 to 10 glasses of water recommended for healthy adults. (Fluids that contain caffeine, such as coffee and tea, don’t help increase hydration levels because they act as diuretics.) The water is helpful in eliminating the by-products of protein digestion by the kidneys.

There are such varying opinions on how much water to drink per day. It all depends on your size, weight, activity level, where you live, what your’e eating… One definite sign that you’re not drinking enough H2O is the color of your urine. If your urine is clear or very light yellow and has little odor, you’re well hydrated. The darker and more aromatic your urine, the more dehydrated you are.

How can you build more water consumption into your day?
CARRY A BOTTLE (OR JUG) WITH YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO! I like to have water at my disposal at work, at night when in bed, during my workouts, etc… It is much more likely that you will drink water when it is always visible and at your fingertips.
Also, make water your drink of choice when you go out to a restaurant. Don’t give in to empty calories!

Your WOFB Family!

Hello ladies!

This Saturday’s SOLE SISTERS session will be at the Key Biscayne bridge.  We will m set in the parking lot right before the start of the bridge at 7 AM.  In case of rain, we will always resort to plan B which is FIU since we are sheltered there.

12-WEEK CHALLENGERS, today is DAY 3.  If you haven’t done this already, I highly recommend it…

Since a goal must have an end date, I like to print up as many blank calendars as I need to meet the goal deadline. In this case, I have printed up 3 blank calendars, Feb, March & April. I put them up on my wall and cross out each day as I conquer it!

I’m very visual so this works well for me – it keeps me very motivated, especially when I can see how many days I have left and how far I’ve come. When you think about it on a larger scale, 90 days is such a tiny amount of time in our lifetimes – especially for something that can be life-altering and bring such huge rewards!

DO IT!!!
Click here and print out your calendars!

The WOFB BANQUET is around the corner!  Our ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET is taking place Sunday, March 6.  Stay tuned for more info!
