JUST AVOID IT!!

SUGAR IS NOT A NUTRIENT!

It is unfortunate that many of us just can’t get enough of the empty calories.  But the more you learn about the dangers of sugar and the more you remind yourself of the negative effects it has on your health, the easier it becomes to ween yourself off of the sugary foods.

The only way to cut back on it, is to be aware of where it’s lurking so you can avoid it and to simply accustom yourself to enjoying your food/beverages without the added sweetness.  Some more tips:

1.  Replace candy and desserts with fruit.  Make a fruit salad and throw in some Greek yogurt!
2.  Spice it up!  Learn to use flavors such as cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and cardamom.  E.g. An apple sliced and sprinkled with a little cardamom is a surprisingly rich-tasting snack!
3.  Beware of the impostors…cereal, sports drinks, ketchup, BBQ sauce, salad dressings, certain yogurts, granola – just to name a few.
4.  Use flavored, unsweetened almond milk to sweeten your coffee or tea.
